Handy Typeface

Typeface.

Handy is a playful hand-filled typeface that uses friendly gestures to grab the readers attention. The design is motivated by the combination of two unique vocabularies, that which is communicated with hand gestures and that which is communicated with words.

I blurred the lines between two communication methods to create a result that is both dynamic and fun. Is it the letter that defines the hands movement or the other way around?

The typeface is robust, readable and scalable. However, it can generate some confusion in interpretation between reading, seeing and urging a response to the hands. Whether it’s a slap, a high-five or a wave, this typeface might just come in Handy.
